Scripture:
In the same way God, in his desire to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable nature of His purpose, intervened and guaranteed it with an oath. Hebrews 6:17 AMP
Time after time, God assures us to trust his word because they're truth. Why would God lie? It's not as if he's afraid of us or can't do what he says he will do. Par hazard, if God were to promise something which isn't in existence, he can quickly create it before we even realize there's nothing like that. So why would he promise us great blessings and then tell us later he lied? Or change his mind to say he can't deliver. Personally, I believe God would like us to challenge his words, to draw them out to the last drop; into fulfillment. In our scripture above, we learn that not only did God promise but he swore by himself to make it a double surety. When you read the earlier verse, the writer explains how people swear to show the seriousness of their intentions and/or to validate what they're saying. We also know there are people who swear even as they're lying through their teeth. That's not the point. The point is they swear by things that are greater or more powerful than they are. God swore by himself since there's none greater, to convince you and I that his words are truth, his promises are valid. God swore by himself so we would have a confident assurance of his promises to us; to convince us that he would do just as he's said. That should be convincing enough for us to know we have a God who can never lie.
Let’s pray: Thank you Jehovah God for who you are. Thank you for your ancient words of truth spoken just for me.
