Scripture:
But when the young man heard this, he left grieving and distressed, for he owned much property and had many possessions [which he treasured more than his relationship with God]. Matthew 19:22 AMP

What a loss! Because of worldly possessions, this young man missed an opportunity of a life time, an opportunity of eternity; being a disciple of Christ. Why did he ask Jesus what he could do to enter eternity, if he wasn't ready or willing to give up the things of the world? We don't know his name from the scriptures, but his story could have been so much different had he not missed this chance to follow Christ, and becoming one of the disciples. Are you seeing similar lines in this story? We do the same in our walk with Christ. We wish to draw closer to God, we wish to be known for great feats for God, we dream of God using us spectacularly. Yet, there is that something that we're still unwilling to give up. There's that something that keeps yanking us back to the world, that thing we don't want to let go. If Jesus were to call you now, would you drop everything, like Peter and Andrew, and follow him? Would you say yes Lord, I'm here and available, send me. Or would it be a repeat of this young man's story? Are we missing great opportunities to be disciples of Christ? Are we holding on to things that are important only in this world? May we not be unwise. Jesus is calling, may our responses be yes.

Let’s pray: I'll say yes to your voice Jesus. Send me. Amen
