Scripture:
But my covenant [My promise, My solemn pledge], I will establish with Isaac whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year. Genesis 17:21 AMP

Have you been waiting for the promise to manifest, and it seems like you've been waiting forever? Are you becoming desperate like Sarah, who wanted to help God out by using a substitute? Are you thinking God has forgotten his own word and promise to you? Isaac took a long time in coming but he did finally arrive. Most times, we look for alternatives and we miss the actual blessing. We're impatient and wondering how it will work out, so anything that looks slightly like the promise, we jump at it. The promise of God has no substitute or look-alikes, it's uniquely tailored. Wasn't Ishmael also a boy, a child that Abraham had been yearning for? But the promise of blessings and the covenant were not made with him or for him. You might be tempted to think what you've chosen looks right. It may look like the promise but it doesn't have the blessings over it. While we're waiting for our Isaac to arrive, let's be alert for the Ishmael's that seem to cross our paths. Let's be watchful of those things that come packaged like the promise. Look at the trouble Ishmael brought into the house of Abraham and into the world. You don't want to compound your own troubles by choosing what God hasn't arranged for you. Let God, in his infinite wisdom bring Isaac to you at the right time. Keep waiting, for the promise will definitely arrive.

Let's pray: May we not run ahead of you Father God. May we not force the prophecy before it's time. Help us in our waiting periods to trust in you. We ask and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
