Scripture:
If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength; but wisdom [to sharpen the axe] helps him succeed [with less effort]. Ecclesiastes 10:10 AMP

In science or technology, when something is "cutting edge", it is outstanding, one of a kind, extraordinary; something or someone with a competitive edge over others. In our kitchens, it is the sharp knife that gets to be used. Our cutting edge or competitive advantage as Christians, is to a large extent the power we carry within us. And power is not power if it's not activated or cannot be used. How do we activate this power within us? Through spiritual exercises such as prayer and fasting. That's how we make and keep ourselves sharp. That's how we cut through the mess and gross darkness all around us. That's how we overcome the schemes and plots of the evil ones. We can't afford to be dull. As our scripture says, when the axe is dull, it requires a lot more effort and strength to cut through things as simple as grass. In effect, when we're dull or edgeless, especially in our prayer lives, we can't even get a fly to shift let alone fight with principalities and powers. Yet, when our edges are sharp like that of a well kept sharpened axe, we can fell down mighty great trees with ease. Are our edges sharp or we're dull? Have we let ourselves go? May we take the necessary steps to get back in spiritual shape. Remember it's only when the knife is sharp that it gets to be used. May we not walk around thinking we're sharp when in fact we're dull. May we receive the wisdom to make the necessary changes to get our edges sharp.

Let's pray: Father, help me. Sharpen me up, help me get back in spiritual shape. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen
