Scripture:

By the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes] so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. Romans 12:2b AMP

So far, I have come across only two instances in the Bible, where man has been given the audacity and authority to put God to test, and to get away with it. It's an invitation from God to challenge his integrity through his words and promises for us. The first is in Malachi 3:10. God speaking through his prophet says: "prove me now". In other words, test me, challenge me, test my words for yourself, try me out and see if I won't do what I said. Interestingly, it is this same word that is used in our scripture above. It reads: "so that you may prove for yourselves what the will of God is". In other words, test God's word for yourself. Don't accept it at face value and don't accept someone's word for it. This is an invitation to know it first hand; You yourself, me myself, to prove the truth in God's words for ourselves. God says he has good plans for us. Our scripture says "that good and perfect and acceptable will of God for us". Meaning it's not a fluke or coincidence that God really has good plans. But how can we test God's plans for us? How can we enjoy them? It begins by getting to know the author of these plans; asking him to make them plain and available. It begins by walking in faith with this God; having a true relationship. It begins by living righteously and with godly values. It begins by renewing our minds to focus on the things of God. May we remove those things that don't add value to our lives so we can walk in integrity before God.

Let’s pray: Father, walk with me in the integrity and truth of your words. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen
