Scripture:
Trust [confidently] in the Lord forever [He is your fortress, your shield, your banner], for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages]. Isaiah 26:4 AMP
I overheard one maths teacher saying to his pupils, 'if only I could open your minds and fix the formula inside, no equation would be difficult to solve'. If only we would open our hearts and see God for who he truly is, nothing would be impossible to us and nothing would frighten us. The Bible carefully teaches that God is above all and is sold out on us. Our verse for today shows who God is to us. He is our Jehovah Nissi, our banner, our covering, our stronghold. He is also our fortress. We might not be living in physical castles made by man, but we have a spiritual fortress that can never be broken down. We might not be using shields in our modern days but we still need to be shielded from harm and disaster. Our God is our shield; he takes the blast and strength of anything thrown at us. He covers us in front and behind so no harm can get to us. He is also the Rock of Ages; He is immoveable yet he moves people and situations for our sakes. He changes circumstances for our good. If only we would understand and accept who God is for us and his power and love towards us. If only we would confidently trust in his words. He would be the formula through which we would solve all of life's myriad problems. We would apply God to every equation, and we would have proof that indeed God is good.
Let's pray: Father our prayer is simple: be our banner, our stronghold and our fortress. Keep us safe under your banner of grace. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen
