Scripture:
Then the word of the Lord came to him saying, "Arise, go to Zarepath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold I have commanded a widow there to provide for you". 1 Kings 17:8-9 AMP
This is a story we all know very well. But did you catch the hidden gem in the scripture above? God told Elijah "I have commanded a widow there to provide for you". This is God himself speaking to his Prophet. Isn't it strange therefore that Elijah finds this widow in the very place God says he will, she fits God's description aptly, and yet she says she has nothing to offer Elijah? What if Elijah had turned away thinking God had made a mistake and sent him to the wrong address? Or thinking he hadn't heard right? He would have missed his blessings and the widow and her son would surely have died in the drought. What's got me thinking is the fact that God said he had commanded the woman but she didn't know herself that she was an instrument of use for the Kingdom. Apostle Paul tells us not to be weary in doing good since we all have been created for good works. Are we by any chance refusing to cooperate with God's plans? Are we missing out on God's blessings because we don't see anything around us that could be of service? Then again there is Elijah. He refused to move even when the woman said he was mistaken. He stood on God's word even when the answer was negative. How many times have we given up at the first sign of negativity or opposition. We know this is what God said to us. We make the move but simply because it's not dropping like manna from heaven, we fail to press in. May we hold God accountable for his words and promises to us. May we not give up easily on our breakthroughs. May we be willing vessels in God's service.
Let's pray: Father, use me for your service. Glorify yourself in your promises to me. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen
