Scripture:
Hear us O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned above the cherubim [of the ark of covenant], shine forth! Psalm 80:1 AMP
Have you ever been in a place, where it felt like God had left you alone? Or, you're banging on the doors of heaven and it looks like all the occupants are away on holiday? You're not the only one. Read the words of the Psalmist to feel his cry of anguish and desperation. What do we do in such instances? Do we bury our heads in the sand or throw in the towel? Do we get angry at God and stop praying entirely? We don't do that since that's the defeatist attitude and we are victors and conquerors. We are victors and not victims. And God doesn't go on holiday. Where's he going to? He's been there and knows it all. One of the ways to get God to move is through an "abandoned" level of praise and worship. Read all of this Psalm 80 and see the praise and worship interwoven into the lines. Even as the Psalmist is asking God for help, he's also reminding God about the wondrous things God did in the past; the things he had heard, the things the fathers had seen. He also confesses their sins and errors and how they had moved away from God's word; then he asks for help again. This may not be a foolproof method to get God's attention, but if it worked for our father's in the past, then it should work for us. The next time God feels distant, don't stop calling out to him; make it louder. Then generously add praise and worship to your prayers. Remind him of his promises, remind him of what he said he can and will do. Remind him that he said he doesn't change. Remind him he said he would never leave or forsake us. Remind him that he said he would answer each time we call. Then tell him you need his help.
Let's pray: God Help! Help us in all aspects of our lives. Help God. Send help to us today. We ask and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
