Scripture:
And He said unto them, Why sleep ye? Rise and pray, lest ye enter temptation. Luke 22:46 KJV
We've been taught that sleep is good, and in fact, it is. That's the time when our bodies slow down, repairs itself and recharges for the next hours ahead. Yet, there are times when we need to stand on our watch and pray. In the Book of Isaiah, we're told that we've been appointed us watchmen, security sentinels to watch and pray for ourselves and our loved ones, until our stories change. For such a task, we cannot afford to sleep too much. We cannot afford to sleep like all others do; we need to cut out some time to pray in the night watches. At the Mount of Olives, Jesus was praying while the disciples slept. Twice he woke them to pray so they wouldn't fall into temptation. Who knows how history would have been altered if they'd prayed for themselves? How will we know, how we too can alter the trajectory of our lives and that of our children and family, if we do not rise in prayer? If we keep sleeping throughout, the night watch without watching? Rise up and pray so you don't fall into temptation.
Let's pray: Yet a little sleep, a little slumber and your want shall come upon you like an armed robber. May this not be our portion in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
