Scripture:
God saw that the light was good (pleasing, useful) and He affirmed and sustained it; and God separated the light [distinguishing it] from darkness. Genesis 1:4 AMP
Why do we change light bulbs? We do because it's either dim, blackened out or doesn't give light again. Can you imagine how absurd it would be, for light to try to blend in with darkness? That would be very strange since we know that darkness disappears as soon as light is on. We are known as Children of Light because God is Light. We know we have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into God's light; we know darkness and light have no business together. In our verse above, God himself caused a clear distinction between the two; separating them from each other. He affirmed that light is good, useful and pleasant. In other words, God has a use for each of us; he needs us to shine, to keep the darkness away, to be useful to all of his creations and to his kingdom. He hasn't asked us to mingle and to straddle darkness. Light cannot compromise on its shining; if it does, it stops being light. In the same way, we can't compromise on God's values and words and try make it "fit in" when it doesn't. There is a clear distinction between light and darkness. We don't have to compromise. We can't afford to compromise.
Let's pray: May darkness not creep in unawares into my life Lord. May I shine brighter and brighter until the coming of Christ. Amen
